“…but my heart says yes.”

“I’m not buying cat in bag………..I must sample the goods before……….My heart says yes.” All these are statements used by young persons today in our society as reaons for pre-marital sex. Are these reasons solid? Should we really let our hearts be our guide?

Often times when it comes to sentimental matters we tend to think with our heart and not our heart. We deliberately ignore issues that arise because we “are in love.” If your partner cannot respect the fact that you choose to abstain, do you think that person truly respects you? If you argue non stop, do you think this will change after marriage? If your partner lies and cheats during courtship why would they change after you live together?

If we use our intelligence and reason then we would understand that these are behavioural patterns that should cause us to be alarmed. It would not be wise to insist on a relationship with a person who displays these flagrant signs.

Instead isn’t it better to be patient now for a little while, than to suffer for the rest of your life! Remember the counsel of the bible in Jeremiah 17:9 “The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?”
