“Follow your Heart”

It is a constant struggle for young people between the heart and the mind. Often times we are tempted to “follow our heart.” The heart functions with blind emotions. The mind however speaks through our conscience and functions with reason. Time after time, when we succumb to our emotions, we are left with major scars.

But some may argue as young people we are bombarded with “follow your heart” slogans from the media.

In our island the numbers of teenage pregnancy and teenage suicides have skyrocketed! Why? It is quite obvious! Decisions made by the heart …………….teenagers in love, have unprotected sex, pregnancy results, boy disappears…………………etc etc, time and time again we observe this.

Of course we will never be perfect but if we try to think with our minds and not our emotions and desires we can obey the Word of God.

No matter what your mistakes are, God says, “If anyone is in Christ he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” (2 Corinthians 5:17)

God in all his mercy is saying to us he can make all things new, once we use our intelligent faith in Him. As youths let us walk with Jesus wherever we go!

All that Glitters is not Gold

Usually when we think about bad people, uppermost in our minds will be murderers, thieves, child abusers and other heinous offenders. However there is a lot more malicious evil in the world that we do not see.

There are individuals who are profoundly evil but are hidden amongst us. Their only objective is to prevent others from achieving their goals. These persons are not kind and love to brag about themselves.

They pretend to be caring but in reality are selfish. While they may not have the title of murderers etc. they are criminals as well. They destroy the minds and well being of their so-called friends. Actually many of them suffer from self loathe. Owing to this they encourage you to do the same.

We have to watch out for these “silent criminals.” In the words of an old saying “All that glitters is not gold.” The attractive appearance of someone is not a reliable indication of their true nature.

Guard your friendship closely, not everyone has merit to be your ally.

Thinking Small

When you think small, you only see what is small. Irrelevant things, that distract you from what is important. The small thinker is limited to his own complexes, prejudices, and fears. He is a slave to his feelings. This reduces the small thinkers brain to the size of a bean.

you think small when you…

– give ears to gossip.

– think only about the here and now, and ignoring the future.

– are stingy and only think about receiving and not giving.

– allow your time to be wasted.

– complain but don’t present a solution.

– negotiate to save some chump change today and lose the goodwill and trust of your client and provider tomorrow.

– keep grudges.

– give yourself up to your pleasures and desires without measuring the consequences.

– talk about the lives of others, criticize and judge without knowing the other side of the story.

– ignore what God thinks.

– put money and material goods above family, honor and character.

– let your feelings influence your decisions.

You can think big, if you want. But the first thing is to recognize how poor your current thoughts are. Then, understand that thinking big doesn’t cost anything.

On the other hand, thinking small can cost you a high price.

If I Had The Time

This is one of our favorite excuses. “If I had the time,” I would do this or that.

You say you have so “little time,” but have you noticed how you still find the time to eat, sleep and drink every day? Do you know why? Clearly because if you don’t do these things your body will eventually get sick and die. In other words, they are vital.

Therefore, you will only find the time to do something according to how important it is to you.

If your marriage was of such importance, you would find the time to invest in it, make the necessary changes and repairs to make it better.

If your health and family were more important to you than the fake sense of pleasure from smoking, drinking, or any other addiction, you would find the time and strength to go to the doctor, go through a treatment, exercise everyday and stop everything that harms your body and mind.

So the problem is not time, it’s the level of importance that you give to what you have to do.

Happy New Year Doesn’t Exist

Just like there is no such thing as happy new car, happy new clothes, happy new job, happy new week, happy new year doesn’t exist either. What exists or could exist, is:

Happy new person
Happy better husband
Happy wise wife
Happy motivated worker
Happy boss
Happy mature adolescent
Happy son of exemplary parents

In other words, inanimate objects don’t have life, feelings, or conscience; therefore they cannot be happy or unhappy. Only people can be happy.

What makes people happy is not simply wishing someone “happy new year,” no matter how much instantaneous satisfaction it brings from having greeted someone or remembered. Attitudes are what make people happy.

Attitudes which begin as a thought. Thought that sparked from belief. Belief that began from understanding God’s thoughts.

So, for example, if a person reads this blog meditates and acts upon what they learn, they have more chances of having a better year than the person who received 127 greetings of “happy new year” in the last couple of days.

Like Father Like Son

“For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.”  1 John 5:4

  • What image do you have about yourself?
  • When people look at you, what do they see?

Do they see a boy, an irresponsible young man, a problematic child or, a responsible, mature, decent young man, bearing the character of the greatest man Who ever walked on Earth – Jesus!

God is: strong, bold, decisive, etc. If we are born of God, should we not be the same?

When you are born of God, you bear His characteristics – you look just like Him.

Most importantly, as He overcame the world, ‘real men’ are just like their Father, they overcome everything, including the world.

Revolt: Turns ordinary man into Man of God

Amongst the many qualities the man of God in the past displayed, revolt is the one quality which was common among all of them! This quality is inherent from God Himself so, that’s why they were called man of God!

God is revolted – revolted with the situation on earth! Revolted against the dominion of satan on His creatures. However, His greatest revolt is against the spirit of sin. Sin is a barrier between Him and man. His greatest desire is to dwell in man, to be close to man and, to guide and walk with man. However, sin impedes God from realising His greatest dream in the lives of many!

So how does God act when He’s revolted?  Let’s look at how He dealt with the situation he was revolted with in the times of Noah.

“And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it REPENTED The Lord that He had made man on earth, and it grieved him at His heart. And the Lord said, I will DESTROY man whom I have created from the face of the earth; for it REPENTED me that I have made them.” (Genesis 6: 5-7 KJV)

God was repented! He was revolted and wiped man from the face of the earth! Here, God left a practical lesson of true Repentance and Revolt.

Many men, until today, are still ordinary because they haven’t revolted against sin, against their flawed character which displeases God, against the same old self and, against the same old quality of life. The day that man gets revolted against these, they will annihilate them, just as God wiped man from the face of the earth! Then, they will go from ordinary man to a Man of God and everyone around will see more of God in their life.

Many times, we say that we’re going to get rid of something but that same thing can still be found living with us.

Check this out:

“Then a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone and threw it into the sea, saying, “Thus with violence the great city Babylon (SIN) shall be thrown down, and shall not be found anymore.” (Revelation 18:21)

When a person is truly revolted against the spirit of sin controlling her, she will do whatever it takes to get rid of it and be made new! And, that sin – that old self, that bad habit – shall not be found anymore! The ups and downs in faith, empty bank account, unconverted family, and the list goes on, shall not be found anymore.

Even if the devil looks for it: Guess what? It shall not be found anymore!

May the Spirit of Revolt be in you!

He’s Decisive!

One important characteristic which defines a real man is his decisiveness. He knows what he wants and where he is going. If he has to do something, he does it! He doesn’t keep procrastinating and leave getting things done until later on. Even his word is decisive. It’s either “yes” or “no” and he sticks to it. If he says something you can be sure that he is going to do it. He is reliable.

When a man is indecisive, he allows doubts and confusion to take place in his mind and, eventually, his life becomes a mess.

“(…) for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.”

James 1: 6

“He is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.” James 1: 8

Maybe, you have been putting off a very important decision which needs to be made (get baptized, ask for forgiveness or to forgive someone, take your love life seriously, choose a career, etc.).  Whatever it may be, the time is now.

You are going to work on this and, from now on, you will not procrastinate anymore.  You will not leave the things you have to do today for tomorrow. You will you be a man of YOUR word and you will keep it.  You will notice that just by applying these simple steps, your life of quality will increase considerably and you will grow to become a real man.

Let the process begin, to separate the boys from the men!

True Wisdom

Do you see a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him.” Proverbs 26:12

To be wise in your own eyes means to think you’re incapable of making mistakes, above reprehension, and know all the solutions to every problem – including yours and others.

Obviously, the mistake in this way of thinking is that none of these assumptions are correct. A person like this will simply appear proud, arrogant, unbearable, and… extremely dumb.

The alternative is to listen more, speak less, observe more, judge less, ask more, assume less, inform yourself more, isolate yourself less – recognise that you’re not the lord of everything and everyone.

True wisdom leads us to humility, not conceit.

Lets breakthrough!

Do Not Force Perfection

Many times when we think about perfection, the things that immediately come to mind are the ones we lack and that we need to add to our lives. We lack this or that—and we think that everything will be perfect only when there is nothing more to add.

However, sometimes perfection is not in adding but taking things from our lives. In fact, this is the first step to ‘perfection.’ It does not make any sense to add things that we lack on top of things that should not be in us. It’s like using perfume or aftershave instead of taking a shower.

What a smell that will create right?

In your search for perfection—be it a man, a father, a boss, a son, or in customer service, in a product, in a career or in faith, — start by removing everything that is unnecessary, useless or harmful.

Be a MAN! Allow your “yes” to be “yes” and your “no” to be “no.”

And once you do this, you will discover that it’s not about perfection, it’s about constant progression.
